Read all about our first virtual choral festival below!

We are excited to launch our first Kaleleonālani ACDA-HI Virtual Choral Festival. This festival is an asynchronous, virtual choral festival that honors the mele and legacy of Queen Emma, done in partnership with the Daughters of Hawaiʻi, and will offer separate opportunities for K-8 students, high school students, and community college/universities students.

What is an asynchronous choral festival?
We provide all the resources you need to learn and record the mele in interdisciplinary ways, all at your own pace and within your own curricular goals. Once your program submits the recording, our organization will edit and compile the submissions into a live-streamed performance for your students and their ʻohana.

Is there a fee for participating this year?
Nope! Please note that this year there is no fee for participating!

What will be included in the resource packets?
Our resource packets include repertoire, language guides, practice tracks, accompaniment, recording instructions, and a video providing a biographical sketch of Queen Emma and her mele from the Daughters of Hawaiʻi. Educators also have the option to engage synchronously with cultural consultants, language experts, and with our arranger in residence, Dr. Alec Schumacher.

How will singers submit their performances?
The submission process is also incredibly flexible, meaning that those meeting in person is welcome to record all of their students at one time, or for those programs meeting virtually, you are welcome to submit individual recordings of students. We also welcome video files of visible singers as well as MP3 or audio files if anonymity is needed.

Sounds great! How do I register my organization?
If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form by March 14th, 5:00 PM.
